Advisory in Energy, Innovation and Business

The UK’s National Grid has created 50GW new capacity by administrative means, which is excellent and should accelerate the energy transition. However this is a short term fix that doesn’t address the long term challenge, that the grid needs to be ~3.5 times its size to power the electricity system and the same again to power the hydrogen economy, under current strategy, regulations and market designs. The country doesn’t have the capability, skilled workforce or money to build that much grid. Better strategy, regulation and market design would reduce this to 1.5-2 times the current size of the grid. This applies world-wide.
